- Used to commemorate a man's attainment of a certain
rank in the social hierarchy, this figure comes from the Northern section of
Ambrym Island, which is part of the New Hebrides group.
Of archaic style the figure's almost bashful posture gives it a
particularly pleasing allure. It's age is underlined
by the extremely old, very closed cell type of fern wood as well.
