Huli
ex Jolika Collection, Rye, NY
Instead of axes, Huli men carry fighting picks such as these.
Composed of a black spathe pick, often tipped with a cassowary bone or nail, lashed onto a handle, these picks are said to be used in attacking fleeing enemies.
Exceptionally, this early example is carved with a squared pick, something of a geometric oddity in a tubular world.
