Solomon Islands
ex Derby Coll., USA
This large and intricate Solomon Islands bonito fishing canoe comes with interesting verbal history.
According to such, it would have been a gift from the people of the Solomon Islands to the admiral of the fleet after the battle of Guadalcanal (WWII).
Whether factual or not, this canoe remains a superb example Solomon Island inlay work. In blackened hardwood the canoe features a large bonito fish literally impaling a hatted figure.
