Currency Shell

ex Jolika Collection, Rye, NY

A finely cut and polished slice of tridacna shell.   Used as trade curency the shells have multiple uses in that they are also used as dishes, and even as knives sometimes.

Evidently this example, with its fine, opalescent polish, seems more like currency than a utensil.
