This is a very fine old Igbo guardian figure carved in dense hardwood.
Brilliantly concieved when right these figures featuring a remarkable combination of lines and forms. From cob like projecting hair buns to a mono block head/neck. From square shoulders and forearms to rounded legs with knobby knees, the figure is just a pleasing and successful set of contradictions.
Kept outdoors but protected from sun and rain the work has acquired a great dry patina.
