Lumi

ex Jolika Collection, Rye, NY

This is an unusually fine shell currency stick from Lumi, in New Guinea's Sandaun province.

Of note, in this example, is the unique, braided rattan flanked by rows of cowrie shells.

With any type of shell being considered currency, this extra rail of cowries is as delicate as it would have been valuable.
